The Nottinghamshire FA is looking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Chair to strategically lead our Board. As Chair and a Board Director you will provide expertise and guidance to the Board and to the Executive Team.
The Board is collectively responsible for the organisation's culture and leadership through sound corporate governance; the implementation of our new strategic goals, strengthening our corporate identity and stakeholder engagement.
The Board facilitates the achievement of our strategy and oversees effective resource allocation whilst managing associated risks. It is accountable for enhancing our profile and reputation both regionally and nationally.
The Role:
• To be responsible for overseeing the business of the Association and for ensuring that the Board meets its obligations and responsibilities to the Association.
• To be responsible for the leadership of the Board of Directors and is accountable to the Membership of the Nottinghamshire FA.
• To hold the Board to account for the performance of the Association providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Directors, ensuring that each Director fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Association.
• To ensure that the Board maintains and demonstrates a clear division between the Board's management and oversight responsibility and the Executive's operational accountability.
• Lead the Board in the approval of the long-term financial plan and annual budget.
• Set the agenda for each Board meeting in consultation with the CEO.
• Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring that Directors receive accurate, timely and clear information in advance of board meetings and that adequate time is available for productive discussion.
• Monitor the delivery of the strategic plan and objectives of the Association.
• In line with the Code of Governance, undertake and maintain evaluation records of the Board's skills and performance, those of individual Directors, and the wider committees.
• Use evaluation findings to develop the skills and effectiveness of the Board.
• Review, with the CEO, any issues of concern to the Board including the wellbeing of staff and the wider workforce of the Association.
• Work with and line manage the CEO, providing opportunities for coaching and development as required.
• Lead the Board in identifying proportionate and appropriate actions to be taken to support and/or maintain diversity targets set and agreed for the Board.
• Act as an Ambassador and represent the Association at internal and external meetings and functions.
• Appoint Chairs to the various committees in consultation with members of the Board.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Board from time to time.
Board meetings take place bi-monthly, are normally held in the evening and are usually in person. Timings for other committee meetings will vary during the season. FA meetings may vary but are usually every 2 months so up to 6/7 meetings per year.
On average the time commitment on a weekly basis is expected to be 1.5 days but note the time commitment for external meetings may vary and will be within the football season calender.
